About

PHOSPHENES is a New York-based, independent biannual fashion magazine. Founded as a fashion blog by Scott Shapiro in 2013, the magazine’s print edition formally debuted in spring 2016.

In its first year as a print publication, PHOSPHENES has expanded its reach throughout New York City and beyond, bringing on an increasing amount of some of the fashion industry’s most promising emerging talents. The magazine’s second issue, “Americana,” helped earn a spot on Library Journal’s list of the 10 best new magazines of 2016, while the publication’s third issue continued to thrust it forward in 2017.

PHOSPHENES sees fashion as an art form, capable of not only inspiring, but empowering individuals. However, this can only be possible if all people are included; PHOSPHENES is meant to be a creative platform that adequately represents a wide range of people, promoting diversity and positive female representation. We hope that this will some day have a larger impact on how we define concepts such as “beauty” and “power,” and on the fashion industry as a whole.

This is only the beginning, so stay tuned for what’s to come.

PHOSPHENES 3 – “FANTASY” IS ON SALE AND IN STORES NOW.
