Between Christmas and New Years, the holiday season is all about celebrating. For some, this means a more upscale event, while others opt for a wild night on the town. These events are all about your look, but why does choosing an outfit have to be a daunting task? Whatever the occasion, break out your newest holiday gifts and check out a few ideas for some holiday party looks.

A Formal Affair: Women's

A Formal Affair: Men's

If your Christmas or New Years event tends to be on the fancier side, you’ve got to have all the right gear. Ladies, don’t be afraid to keep it simple with a classic red dress, providing vibrant elegance while staying in the holiday spirit. Something like this Saint Laurent number will do the trick, while gold jewelry is essential for any holiday fête. Even if the gown covers your shoes, it’s always best to stay in the mindset that “less is more,” shown here with basic black pumps. Let your bag do the talking; this bejeweled Alexander McQueen clutch adds an extra edge that ties all of the elements together.

The same rules apply to menswear, as you can never go wrong with a traditional black tuxedo and white shirt combination. Of course, make sure the tailoring is on point for this silhouette, then proceed to securing some pristinely shined shoes and a skinny black tie. Gold details are equally necessary for men as they are for women to draw the line between simple and boring, shown here with a sharp tie bar and some ritzy Martin Margiela cufflinks. You’ve probably seen that beautiful Lanvin coat before, thrown into this look to add a necessary burst of color. Finish off the ensemble with some square frame glasses to provide a touch of intellectual sophistication.

Sleek Celebration: Women's

Sleek Celebration: Men's
These looks aren’t limited to just the holiday season, which makes them perfectly versatile for Christmas and New Years. Minimalism is always a good idea, and Alexander Wang gives it an extra dimension by playing with shapes and angles and creating a bold top, skirt, and sleeveless blazer. In true minimalist fashion, this look doesn’t need more than just some simple ankle boots and a stunning silver cuff, while this Margiela clutch provides a jolt of lively red.

The key piece in the men’s look, this Sandro shirt embodies the idea of paying attention to detail; concealed buttons and leather trimming along the cuffs and collar revives a simple item with an elegant twist. Meanwhile, black jeans are always a great option for guys, as they go with just about anything. Catch up to your female counterparts with a pair of sleek Chelsea boots, and maintain the holiday cheer with similar touches of rouge. Whether or not you want to bring your iPad out is up to you, as this Comme des Garçons case could easily double as a simple clutch bag or document case. Meanwhile, its bright red hue matches the bursts of color in this classically sleek Movado watch. But the timeless timepiece isn’t the last thing to consider. Also from Sandro, this wool-blend coat has made its way onto several holiday gift guides and “best outerwear” lists (and hopefully my closet soon), finishing off your outfit with even more minimalist refinement.

Party All Night: Women's

Party All Night: Men's

What are we celebrating again? Who cares? You came here to party, and your look should definitely reflect your fun spirit. Though the sequined dress is the favorite of what many like to call “basic bitches,” take it to the next level with the rest of your ensemble. Go for the gold with funky jewels and a bag that could almost outsparkle your frock. Meanwhile, a fur coat adds a touch of glamor, shown here in Jil Sander’s structured silhouette. And yes, those “ruby red slippers” would look pretty good on you, too. Part Courtney Love and part Audrey Hepburn, you’re sure to be the life of the party in this outfit.

Unless the man takes that title.

‘Tis the season to “ball out,” right guys? Effectively execute that goal with equally gold details, like high-quality vintage rings and a killer watch. Let’s not forget about the shoes, like this Giuseppe Zanotti pair that revamps the classing “smoking shoe” with sharp gold studs. Though the rest of your outfit would be best left relatively simple, don’t let it get too bland. A crisp white t-shirt and dark wash skinny jeans never looked better, except when paired with an excellently tailored tuxedo blazer. Why not have a little fun with an unnecessary bow-tie?Though this look is far from formal, it’s the thought that counts.

Both sexes are encouraged to bring a pair of sunglasses; you’ll be partying ’til sunrise.

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year! Have fun, be safe, and celebrate responsibly!

The City of Lights lights up

from the Grand Palais

to Rue Saint Honoré

with the spirit of the holiday.

Pleine de couleurs.

De nombreux fleurs.

Avenue Montaigne, Place de Vendôme,

red, green, and gold.

The crisp, cold air feels warmer,

and when you thought it couldn’t get more magical than the former,

The City of Lights lights up.

As if Paris wasn’t already beautiful enough, every corner and cobblestone gets enhanced with captivating details during the holiday season. Whether it’s the festive Prada window displays that light up Printemps or the serene blue and white orbs that garnish the Champs Élysées, the ferris wheel at Place de la Concorde or the little bursts of vitality that line every street, the city truly comes to life. There’s no escaping the holiday spirit or the magic that comes with it.

Joyeux Noël et Joyeuses fêtes.

Although many people have probably gotten gifts for their loved ones somewhere in the Black Friday madness, there’s bound to be a few stragglers who haven’t quite figured out who’s getting what for the holidays. Nothing’s wrong with a little procrastination, but this year’s early Hanukkah has already passed, and Christmas and Kwanzaa are both just around the corner. Possibly the hardest part about shopping for the holidays is choosing the items. Cue Des Phosphènes’ 2013 Holiday Gift Guide, full of the top picks for every man and woman’s personal style.

If you’re shopping for someone who prefers more classically masculine and feminine items with a fashion-forward twist, there are bound to be plenty of options. Maybe this person prefers a nice fur or a great pair of trousers, or maybe they would enjoy a timeless strand of pearls. Including everything from watches to baked goods, here are a few ideas for your slightly “dandy” GQ man or your traditionally elegant, luxury-loving lady.

Minimalism is all about clean and simple styles, often structured and always sleek. But don’t think plain black and white is all that does it. A minimalist has to pay sharp attention to detail to achieve his or her strikingly sharp look, whether through shapely shades or fuss-free footwear. It’s not likely that you’ll see many buckles or buttons in this selection, but the minimalist in your life will definitely thank you for it.

Even with a punk rock, “no fucks given” attitude, everyone loves a little luxury, and there’s a reason rock ‘n’ roll style has long been taking the fashion industry by storm. Hedi Slimane’s range of studded leather pieces for Saint Laurent would definitely catch your favorite rocker’s eye, while there’s no doubt they wouldn’t love a new set of speakers or some jewels that pack a punch. A sharp, provocative fragrance could also be an adequate reflection of his or her persona. Whatever you choose, there are plenty of options to have your favorite rebel rockin’ around the Christmas tree.

Part hippie and part wild child, the Free Spirit is always bringing the good vibes. Why not share some of those vibes with him or her through creative prints or some new items to add life to the party? His or her youthful, fun-loving attitude would be truly grateful for any of these varied items.
