The fashion world’s scope is often limited to the main hubs of New York, London, Milan, and Paris, occasionally venturing out to less-covered industries in Seoul, Tblisi, Sydney, and Lagos. But there’s so much beauty out there that we’re missing. Case in point: Jakarta, Indonesia’s bustling capital city. The famously multicultural city draws influences from across the globe and mixes them with traditional elements, which is certainly noticeable when it comes to the city’s promising fashion scene. The label Toton, for example, references Jakarta’s busy, vibrant streets. Meanwhile, the fantastical designs of Harry Halim have piqued the interest of stars like Cardi B and Teyana Taylor, having a moment in the former’s video for her single “Press.” The fashion world is always looking for the next big thing to get excited about, and Jakarta’s scene is surely one to watch.
