All clothing, photography, and styling by Grete Moeller.
Through fashion design, Berlin-born, London-based Grete Moeller proves that out of darkness there is often light.
Grete Moeller was born in Berlin and studied fashion design in South Africa, now freshly moved to London. With a background in theatre and art, their designs are dramatically expressive, telling stories of the dreams and emotions carried through life. Grete’s approach to fashion is a mindful celebration of the emotional, the weird, the wonderful, the daring, the hurting, and the healing. All of Grete’s pieces are one-off exclusives, as everything is up-cycled, with materials sourced from antique and thrift stores.
Grete’s latest collection explores a woman’s heroic approach to reclaiming femininity and sex, and the trap between the alienation and deep connection to her body after experiencing trauma; the collection is specifically dedicated to victims and survivors of sexual abuse. It reimagines and reclaims the concept of corsetry and its meaning for femininity and empowerment throughout history.
Whilst nostalgically embodying the comfort of one’s home, inspired by Freud’s Therapeutic Couch, the garments were created from cushions, blankets, tapestry, vintage curtains, and other household items. This process not only displays a unique sense of imagination in Grete’s designs, but also allows for ethical and responsible sourcing.
